The Chin Community in Norway Successfully Hosted Chinland Constitution Consultative Meeting

The Chin Community in Norway (CCN) held Chinland Constitution Consultative Meeting with the Chin Forum Management  Board (CFMB) in Egersund, Norway on the 24 July, at where not less than 80 Chins from political, social and religious backgrounds participated in the consultation of drafting the  Constitution. In the program that lasted for about 7 hours – ideas, experiences, processes, and rationales on the draft Chinland Constitution were exchanged, debated, and discussed among the participants codially.

As of today, there are about 550 Chin immigrants living in more than 20 municipalities throughtout Norway and most of them left their homeland due to their fervent contribution to the operation of Chin National Front (CNF) that is the leading Chin National political organization – which strive for regaining self-determination right of the Chin people, establishement of Federal Union of Burma, and restoration of democracy and human rights in the Union of Burma. Due to the systematic human right violation and political suppression committed by the Military Regime in the Union of Burma, there are  50, 000 and 20, 000 in Indiana and Malaysia respectively struggling of their daily survival is in henious condition.

The Chin Forum was established in 1989 at the first Chin Seminar held in Ottawa, Canada, attended by including 17 Chin political leaders, scholars, religious leaders, and activists. The Chin Forum is trying to reach out Chins around the world and laid out the basic principle to join in the activities of drafting the Constitution and others, said Salai Kipp Kho Lian, who is a newly elected CF Coordinator. The Consultation included ‘Constitutional Law, Democracy, the Rule of Law, Federalism, Local Governance, Information Technology and Human Right issues.   The presented attendees at the meeting were both from local Norwegian Community and Chin people in Norway and from the Chins around the world.

The Chin Community in Norway (CCN) was formed in July, 2004 by a group of Chin immigrants from the Union of Burma to facilitiate a better communication among Chin Communities around the world –  maintenance of Chin Culture and the better cooperation for democratic movement in and outside of Burma. The current CCN members are actively contributing humanitarian assistances to the needy Chins and the national political movement of Burma.
